Curriculum vitae

Christian Lorenz Müller joined the MOSAIC group as PhD student in August 2006. He is a German citizen, born in 1979 in Schesslitz near Bamberg, Germany. He finished his PhD Thesis in December 2010 and obtained his doctorate from ETH Zurich. Since January 2011, Christian is a postdoctoral researcher in the MOSAIC Group.

In 1999 he started studying Bioinformatics at the University of Tübingen. During 2003-2004 Christan Müller continued his studies at the University of Uppsala and majored in Image Analysis and Scientific Computing. He holds an M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the University of Uppsala. In 2004 Christian Müller returned to Tübingen and completed his Bioinformatics studies, leading to a Diploma degree in Bioinformatics/Computer Science in 2006. In parallel, Christian Müller studied poetry at the Studio Literatur und Theater Tübingen. He received the certificate of the Studio in July 2005 after writing the poem collection "die erde dreht sich zu laut - gedichte von der schwedischen oberfläche".

In 2001 and 2002 Christian Müller was a member of the Robocup Attempto Team Tübingen, working on image processing and robot camera calibration. Under the supervision of Bernhard Müller at the Division of Scientific Computing, University of Uppsala, he carried out his Master's thesis in the field of Computational Aeroacoustics. In his thesis, he implemented and validated a 2D numerical model for sound propagation in the atmosphere based on the linearized Euler equations (2004). During 2005-2006 Christian Müller joined the section "Engineering Integrated Circuits,Tools, Technology and Methods" of the Automotive Electronics divison (AE/EIM) of the Robert Bosch Group in Reutlingen, Germany. Besides his work on the speed-up of computer co-simulations of electrical and mechanical systems, he conducted his Diploma thesis in Bioinformatics, analyzing parameter sensitivities of analog and behavioral Neuro-Fuzzy networks. This thesis has been supervised by Rolando Dölling, Robert Bosch Group, and Wolfgang Rosenstiel and Hanspeter A. Mallot from the University of Tübingen.

Christian L. Müller's PhD research included the development of bio-inspired black-box algorithms for optimization and sensitivity analysis, and their application to conformational spaces and energy landscapes of atomic clusters and biopolymers. His postdoctoral research in the MOSAIC group continues this theme and additionally studies the theoretical convergence properties of the involved algorithms. Christian Müller is involved in the EU FP-7 project "Computational Geometric Learning", which he co-authored.
